I just read a post that was written about Chalk Talk in regards to the way they talk about women in their music. The first sentence talks about how he feels terrible when bands like chalk talk are compared to his band (snowing) because they have "fucking lame lyrics" and "call people fags". Well personally i would never compare Chalk Talk to Snowing because they are nothing alike, the main difference being Chalk Talk actually writes good music. the next part talks about knowing right from wrong. Obviously someone who seriously degrades women and calls someone a faggot is wrong. But jokingly doing it is not wrong, it is just that... a fucking joke. Being too serious may not be wrong but it is dumb. get over yourself.
The next part talks about the song Misquamicut. Ask anyone who has ever heard Chalk Talk if they love that song and every person will tell you yes. I have never been to a show where that song has been played and not seen everyone screaming at the top of their lungs and smiling uncontrollably.
The line "statutory rape you'll never forget" refers to a kid from our highschool who was actually charged with statutory rape. Its a social commentary, its not degrading at all.
The only issue here is with the author of this post. You say you're "punk" becuase you didn't fit in with "bros" and you found people who you felt comfortable being yourself around? Well you're doing the same thing by talking shit about other peoples music. Chalk Talk is not a hateful band at all and if you think that, you need to listen closer. Chalk Talk songs are literally all about the times you spend hanging out and doing stupid fun things with your friends, its not meant to imbed ideas of hating women into people.
If you don't like it, then don't listen to it. Chalk Talk doesn't need your blessing to continue writing music and if you were to "black list" them, it wouldn't matter becuase people love this band and people will continue to love this band.
