Ohana

I have had a lot of experiences, been lots of places and met tons of people. I went to hawaii with two of my best friends for 10 days. Everyone there greets you with open arms. People respect each other and will go out of their way to help out someone they know, and everyone there knows everyone. The word ohana translates as friends and it truely means something there. No one lives a lavish lifestyle but everyone takes care of eachother when they need it. no one makes alot of money but no one gives a shit about it. It seemed everyone we met was going out of there way to show us an awesome time. I did so many unexplainably amaizing things and had the time of my life everyday, but in the process i learned something important about myself and life. I always talk about how money shouldn't be important but watching the people i met there really made me realize that making money is not what you should spend your life presuing. Nothing else measures a persons success as well as the stories that can be shared. And you will never remember the number on your atm reciept but you will remember the time you traveled across the country with your best friends, the time you jumped off cliffs into the blue ocean, the time you swam with hammerhead sharks, the times you skated every spot you drove by, the time you thought " i should really be in school now but going out to experience the world will teach me alot more". Spend your money on music that you want to hear, eat the food you want to eat and go the places you want to go. We are trained to think success only comes after highschool, associates, bachelors, masters, and all the other bullshit that stresses you out. Fuck school, a text book will never teach you something that you can learn first hand. Someday you could have the shiney car, big house, fat wife, fancy suit but what does that all amount to? Someday you could be sitting around a fire laughing with your best friends after you have all spent years doing what you dreamed you would do and what you have won't compare to what you have done.

  1. I am so happy you were able to see that. Miss you. Ohana actually translates to family.

  2. i like this post, but this way of thinking is too simplistic. In order to eat the food I want to eat, and go the places I want to go, I need money.

In this world, to do the things you want to do, you need money. Making money does not need to be the entire focus of your existence, but in order to have those experiences, in order to travel around the country with your friends, you need enough money so that you will be able to take care of yourself.

  3. You don't need money to make memories with your friends. Life is about making something out of it, its the people you meet and the experiences that follow. Its that one moment in life where you say wow, ill remember this day forever.

And even when money becomes a factor, why horde it all. Your gonna die one day right?? Cant take it to your grave. Mine as well spend every cent you do make or find on those memories that do last a life time.

And being in school doesn't teach you the life lessons. Its being out in the world that teaches you.

So maybe it's the people that live life not simply enough, who think a college degree is going to make them happy. What memories will be left when you spend every waking hour nose in an English book??

Life is about living it to the fullest and taking that chance.
